The Story of a Year: Pregnancy, Birth, and the Year that Follows

There are years that pass quietly—and then there are years that change everything.

The moment you find out you're expecting, time takes on a new rhythm. What follows is nothing short of a metamorphosis of your body, your identity, your relationships, and your heart. This year is transformation that deserves to be remembered.

From my perspective it’s not just about capturing beautiful images, it’s more about preserving the emotional truth of your story. Documenting the full arc of your journey from maternity to birth, from the newborn haze to your baby becoming a natural part of your family’s rhythm. They say it’s honestly a full 13-month year of ‘becoming’.

As a doula, photographer, and artist, I don’t just show up with a camera. I arrive with deep reverence for the sacred transition into parenthood and the emotional weight that each stage carries. My work is rooted in trust, consistency, and connection so my families feel safe, seen, and supported through it all, from the silly laughs to the most intense contractions.

Pregnancy is the beginning of the story…

Maternity photography is so much more than just showing off a baby bump. This is a chapter about identity. You are becoming not just a parent, but a new version of yourself. When we plan your maternity session, we create space for reflection, movement, quiet joy, and grounding. Whether we’re surrounded by the Colorado mountains or curled up with your toddler at home, these sessions are centered on you, not just your body, but your story of beautiful transformation.

Q: When should I schedule my maternity session?
A: I recommend between 30–36 weeks. This is when your belly is beautifully round, but you still feel comfortable enough to move and enjoy the experience.

What’s most powerful about starting here is that it builds the foundation for trust. By the time I’m walking into your birth space, I’m not a stranger, I’m someone who’s already held space for you, witnessed you, and seen your strength.

Birth is the sacred center…

Birth is where everything changes. It is the physical, emotional, and spiritual heart of the entire story.

When I walk into your birth space, I bring both my photographer’s eye and my doula heart. I know when to quietly document, when to step forward, and when to give space. Because we’ve already built trust, you don’t need to perform or worry about how it looks. I’ve already seen you, held space for you, and honored your journey. Now, I get to witness you in your greatest power.

If I’m supporting you as both your doula and photographer, we won’t just have met at your maternity session. We’ll have walked through your pregnancy together. By the time labor begins, we will feel more like friends than strangers. I’ll know you, your preferences, your hopes, and how to support you with clarity and compassion every step of the way.

Q: Do you act as a doula and photographer?
A: I’m often what’s lovingly called a “doula-tog”—someone who supports emotionally and physically like a doula, while also documenting your birth story through photo and/or video. Depending on your needs, I can offer full-spectrum doula and photography support, or serve as just one role in your birth.

When I’m hired in a doula role, we’ll connect during prenatal meetings, prepare for your birth together, and have a postpartum visit to process and check in. My support spans the full journey, not just the birth itself. If you hire me solely as your photographer or videographer, I’ll still hold space for you with care and presence during birth, but my primary focus will be documenting your story while supporting the team you’ve chosen. I regularly work alongside other doulas and love being part of collaborative birth teams. And for families who prefer just one extra person in the room, my combined role allows me to support both practically and creatively in a way that feels seamless and intimate.

The tender days after…

The postpartum window is unlike anything else. The house is quiet, your body is still healing, your baby is still new to the world and yet everything is different. My newborn sessions are led by softness and slowness. No props, no posing. Just you, your family, and your baby in your new rhythm. I come to you, in your home, so we can document those tender moments — stress free — with real compassion and connection. Some families want these sessions to feel like a family connection time while others want them to be a raw postpartum experience. I’m happy to honor the parts of your story you want to remember and we will work creatively together to document you in all your beauty with baby.

Q: When do you do newborn sessions?
A: I typically come to you within the first 1–2 weeks postpartum, but I’m flexible. It’s more about your readiness and less about the “perfect” timing. For some families I come even a few days after birth to get those really raw and unfiltered moments while other families wait a month before inviting me into their sacred bubble.

Q: What can I expect from a lifestyle newborn session? What about for a raw postpartum session?
A: Think cozy cuddles on the couch, swaddled sleepy photos, your older child peeking in to meet their new sibling, a quiet moment in the nursery. It’s the real stuff. The memories that matter. For my more raw postpartum sessions, think breastfeeding moments, stretch marks, and honoring your ever transforming body!

Watching you all grow together…

One of my favorite parts of this journey is coming back around 9–12 months after birth for a family session. By then, your baby has changed so much—and so have you. It’s a chance to reconnect, catch up, and document the growth that’s unfolded in your home, your hearts, and your story.

These sessions are more than just milestone photos. They’re a reflection of how far you’ve come. We play, we laugh, we often talk about some of the memories from your birth or newborn session, and we honor the beautiful transformation of your family. It’s a full-circle moment, one that feels like a celebration and a reunion all at once.

The power of one storyteller…

Of course, you can hire multiple photographers to document all of these sessions for you. But there’s something incredibly sacred about working with one person for the whole journey. I’ve watched your strength rise. I’ve been in the room when you met your baby for the first time, and I’ve returned to your home to see how that baby has settled into your life like they’ve always belonged there.

I know your story. And that shapes how I document it.

Birth, parenting, healing none of it is linear. It’s messy and powerful and holy. And having someone who understands that and sees you can be the greatest bonus in this hard and vulnerable time. Inviting me is like having someone who can hype you up in your pregnancy, advocate for you through labor, hand you tissues during postpartum tears, and show up again and again to make art out of your family magic.

When your baby turns one, and you look back on those photos from your pregnancy, from your birth, from those late-night newborn snuggles, you’ll have the whole story.

I created my Motherhood Storytelling Packages because I believe no chapter should go undocumented. From the anticipation of pregnancy to the sacred power of birth, from those newborn days to watching your baby grow into themselves you deserve to remember it all.

These moments are fleeting. But when captured with intention and heart, they become your family’s legacy.

If this speaks to you, I’d love to connect. Let’s create a custom plan that honors your journey from the very beginning.

Availability for full-story bookings is limited especially for births so early planning is encouraged. Reach out today to explore your options.
